The Racing Factory on the attack in the first round of the CPR
- Armindo Araújo begins the defence of his title at Aboboreira
- Pep Bassas with his eyes set on the Peugeot Rally Cup Iberica
- Ernesto Cunha bets on the CPR 2WD, keeping an eye on the PRCI
The Racing Factory and Armindo Araújo start, next weekend, the defence of the Absolute National Champion title achieved in 2020. In a Rali Terras d'Aboboreira filled with great national and international names, the Santa Maria da Feira team has one of the main candidates for victory, in the race organized by Clube Automóvel de Amarante, the first round of the 2021 Portuguese Rally Championship.
Justino Reis doesn't hide his motivation to start another CPR, with new challenges."It's not news to anyone that we'll have a season ahead of us that will bring us an added responsibility: helping Armindo Araújo win another championship. However, we have prepared and worked well in the pre-season to meet the goals of all our drivers, regardless of their sporting goals. As always, The Racing Factory will value every project it has inside doors, putting the same commitment so that our customers can achieve the best possible results", he stated, referring to the participation in the race of Pep Bassas and Ernesto Cunha, who will compete in the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica and the 2WD class.
The National Champion, Armindo Araújo comes to the first rally with"high expectations and I admit that I want to fight for the victory. The last rally of the previous season was held in the same area where this year we are starting to defend our title and, at that time, we won here categorically. We would like to show the same speed and pace in this first race of the CPR 2021, we are motivated, we know that the competition has also prepared a lot, but we will do everything to fight for the victory.””
The Spanish Pep Bassas, who, for his experience, is one of the candidates for the final victory in the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica, admits to be motivated for this first season in The Racing Factory:"Our goals for this rally are to gain some competitive rhythm, since it's been a few months since we've participated in any rally, and we will give our best, even though we know it will be difficult considering the rivals we will face. Anyway, we will try to be as fast as possible to start adding points that will allow us to win the Cup at the end of the year, which is our main goal", he explained.
Meanwhile, Ernesto Cunha is also prepared for another season in the CPR 2WD, where he intends to improve the results achieved in 2020."Our first goal is to solidify the knowledge we gained last season, continue to develop our driving techniques, and continue to evolve the Peugeot 208 Rally4 with The Racing Factory. In the CPR, we will try to improve the result achieved in 2020 (3rd Place Overall in the CPR 2WD), and in this race, this will be our main goal. Our focus is on the Portuguese Rally Championship, but we will keep an eye on the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica, where we will try to be competitive and keep up with the pace of the front drivers, not having great goals in terms of results".”.
The Rali Terras d'Aboboreira, organized by Clube Automóvel de Amarante, goes on the road this Friday and Saturday.
