THE RACING FACTORY HAD A BITTERSWEET RALI VINHO DA MADEIRA
The Racing Factory entered the Rali Vinho Madeira with four teams with very different goals, but with high expectations. At the end of the race, and after not achieving some of the goals it had set itself, the Santa Maria da Feira team couldn't hide its disappointment, but was satisfied with the commitment of everyone involved in the structure, in this fourth round of the Portuguese Rally Championship.
Miguel Nunes, who was aiming for the overall victory in the race, and who came so close to achieving it, ended up giving up in the last special of the Madeiran race when he was leading it. A misfortune that was caused by a slight touch damaged the left rear wheel of the Skoda Fabia Rally 2 EVO of the Madeiran driver and which stopped him from reaching the Parc Fermé in Funchal. Armindo Araújo, whose ambitions were to gain the maximum number of points in the Portuguese Rally Championship, had a puncture in the right front wheel in the first passage of the Rosário section when he was attacking the leadership of the race. At the end of the rally, Justino Reis was the voice of the team in this moment of setback, but which in no way overshadowed the excellent work of the team and of both drivers throughout the week. "We worked hard and well this week, both (Miguel Nunes and Armindo Araújo) were fully on track with their goals, when a racing misfortune put them out of the fight. Sometimes we won, sometimes we don't. We are very happy with the drivers' performance but obviously sad with the result,"he began by explaining.
On other fronts, Ernesto Cunha (Peugeot 208 Rally 4) and Ricardo Gonçalves (Renault Clio Rally 5) accomplished their main goal of completing the rally held in Madeira. "Both achieved their goals and leave satisfied, after a race that tested even the most experienced drivers. A challenging rally, where both Ernesto and Ricardo showed a lot of will and perseverance in the face of difficult weather conditions.”
The Racing Factory is already focused on the next challenges that pass through the Rali de Santa Maria and the Barum Rally CZ, but Justino Reis wanted to leave a word for his structure: "The hard work, the commitment, the will... were always present and for that our congratulations and thanks for the work at the highest level demonstrated by all, both drivers and members of the TRF team, throughout the race in a constant fight for victories. Today we left a little sadder, but also stronger. The work continues, we have new challenges ahead and those are now our main focus.”
